Vanguard Staff
David Standen is a highly experienced expert in defensive tactics and use of force training. With over twenty-five years of service in the Springfield (MA) Police Department, he has excelled as a Staff Instructor/Senior Master Instructor at Defense Technology’s Training Academy. David has certified thousands of officers across the United States and Internationally within the Law Enforcement, Correctional and Private Security fields. As the Defensive Tactics Coordinator for the Municipal Police Training Committee, he played a vital role in developing Massachusetts' comprehensive Defensive Tactics Program, certifying thousands of instructors in the process. His dedication to law enforcement training is further demonstrated through his collaboration with Professor Gregory Connor and his co-authorship two influential books: "Vehicle Stops: Safety Strategies and Tactical Procedures" and "Terry Stops: Safety Strategies and Tactical Procedures."

Mr. Lewis serves as a staff instructor for the NRA Law Enforcement Division, where he teaches firearms instructor development courses to law enforcement, private security, and armed professionals. Also, As the National Training Director at a protective services training academy, he oversees training management and curriculum development for over 113 instructors. Mr. Lewis brings over 20 years of diverse experience in law enforcement, public safety, and security, having worked extensively in high-threat environments like Iraq and Afghanistan. His background includes significant roles as an Operations Officer, ERT Medic, ERT Team Leader, SWAT Medic, SWAT Team Leader, Dual Purpose Narcotics K9 handler, Explosives detection K9 handler lead on PSD Advance Team, and Tactical Supervisor for a nuclear facility.
